Students of the marine trades classes in boat maintenance at the Deer Isle-Stonington High School on Deer Isle, ME have built an electric skiff called Watt’s Up. The skiff is powered by an outboard motor that has been modified internally to run on an electric engine. The engine is powered by 4 12-volt (100 Amp) batteries and can provide up to 13 horsepower.
The Applied Physics class even has a recharging barge in the works that would run off of a combination of solar, wind and tidal power.
